Newborn Photography Tips and Tricks

I have been working as a Newborn Photographer for 11 Years now! And there are 5 things I have learned, that are consistently important when you are working with newborns.

After all, newborn safety and comfort are absolutely the first priority. So much goes on behind the scenes to ensure a successful session.

1. Patience

2. White noise

3. Wrapping

4. Warmth

5. Full Belly

Patience. It’s so important that your photographer knows how to read cues and can tell when baby is actually hungry and or just needs comfort/to settle.

White noise. I use lots of white noise in my sessions! The womb is loud and your newborn comforted by similar sound.

Wrapping: Those cute swaddles poses are just as functional as they are sweet! If I have a newborn that needs a little extra encouragement to get to sleep I start with wrapping! It’s so comforting for them and keeps their arms/legs from startling reflex and waking up!

Warmth: My studio is set to be warm, and I use space heaters as needed. After 11 years I know the exact level I need it to be for baby to be perfectly warm and comfortable.

Full belly: This seems obvious but babies do not settle if their main need is not being met. I always tell mamas to plan on extra feedings at their session as needed! We always make sure that this need is met first before moving on!
